Flight Price Can Override the Ideal Route
A perfect itinerary that costs AED 1,500 more per person may not be worth it for a family. Search the airfare combinations first, then see whether the route still makes sense after adding the train/road transfer.
Open-jaw tickets are particularly useful: fly UAE→Madinah and Jeddah→UAE, or the reverse. They can eliminate backtracking.
Ihram Is the Big Operational Difference
If you fly to Jeddah intending to perform Umrah, Ministry guidance says a traveller coming from beyond the Miqat must enter Ihram before passing the relevant boundary, and airlines usually announce when the aircraft is approaching/aligned with a Miqat.
If you fly to Madinah first, you do not need to be in Ihram merely because you have arrived in Saudi Arabia. You prepare when departing Madinah for Makkah and enter at the Madinah Miqat.
